Some like engineering because it is creative and some dislike it because it is too tough. In this 4th episode, we will explore how tough or easy engineering is?

We all start studying at the age of 4 or 5, and, continue our studies till we die. We pass middle school, high school, college, and get graduated. We always say that this subject or book is tough or easy for us. 

Jean Charest once said "The only difference between a tough goal and an easy goal is your determination.


You will find a college boy complaining about calculus that it is too tough or some high school boy that his literature or science book is quite tough. Similarly, an engineering student often complains that his engineering is tough. Turns out it is not right at all times.

The educational syllabus designed by the educators is according to the mental level and grade of the student. For some calculus may be easy but for some, it may be difficult. Some subjects require more time to be memorized but some don't.

The same happens in engineering. A student who is willing to do engineering has to pass the tough test in order to get into engineering school and the favourite engineering discipline.

There is a common saying that Study Smart Not Hard. This saying can be easily applied to engineering. As engineering is nothing but all technical and creative work. So cramming can not help. Most of the engineering examination questions are based on real-life scenarios. It is true that some engineering subjects are easy and interesting. For example embedded systems in electrical engineering was an interesting subject for me but at the same time was hard for my class fellows. Similarly, signals and systems were hard for me but were easy for most of my class fellows.

After digging deep I came to know easily that those subjects in which I find daily life utility is easy for me. As I am an engineering student especially an electrical engineering student.  I can say that some subjects in engineering are tough and some are not. As we discussed earlier that the educational syllabus is designed according to the mentality of the student. An undergraduate engineering syllabus is designed according to the mental level of 18 - 23-year-old students.

The engineering syllabus in every country is the same. So it does not matter you are in MIT or in any university. However, there are some reasons why engineering is tough for someone and not for the other. 

Poor quality of education, no student career counseling, lack of interest, lack of goals. Poor relationship between teacher and student. No time management by the student are the reasons which makes engineering or any degree tough for the student.

According to my personal opinion as an engineering student. I find some engineering topics tough for me and some are easy for me to study. But the end result is that engineering is tough but a student and institute can make it easy.

AC-DC Power Supply 1 ( Block Diagram)

  THEORETICAL BLOCK DIAGRAM So the basic purpose of a power supply is to convert and AC signal to DC Signal. The block diagram of the power supply would be something like given below The small electronic circuits cannot handle high voltage current. So a transformer is used to reduce the AC input and will give the required AC voltage value at output Now to convert an AC signal to DC signal A rectifier is used. The output from the rectifier is not a pure DC output. In fact, it contains a lot of ripples and it is highly not smooth. To make the DC output smooth and remove the AC content of the rectifier a filter circuit is used. This filter is either LC (inductor-capacitor) filter, RC (resistive – capacitive) filter. The choice of the filter depends on the designer of the circuit and to the type of power supply. The output now becomes a full DC with constant signal but still it is unregulated voltage.
