Research Tips For Engineers



 In this 6th episode we will discuss why research is important and how engineers can do research.

First of all sincere apologies as I was busy doing research on my research paper of smart grid. For engineer a research is essential. As research provides many benefit to the engineer. Various exploring, observation and technical skills are judged and developed by the person himself. 

Before we discuss further let’s understand the research in literary terms. Now According to Wikipedia “
“Research is a creative and systematic work undertaken to increase the stock of knowledge”

This Wikipedia definition clearly explains that the research is all about creativity and planned work. 

Creativity and planned work is a part of engineer’s life. As engineering is a practical field hence practical research is much more common. Lets understand it further by taking electrical engineering into consideration. But before that I want you to support me on Patreon because

There are few things that a research engineer or a researcher must keep in his / her mind. like topic for research, duration of the research, goals and research outcomes, research location, research type and research methodology.

You don’t want to do research which is not in your range ie in term of location or type.

So you must select a proper topic and work on that topic for about a week search and make a draft about how will you do this and in how much. Make a not of all of the methodologies that you will use while research. If the research is practical let’s say you have to make a new circuit to fulfil the future needs then make a plan  about how will it benefits others and how you can design circuit which software and hardware will be used in the design.

Till now we have discussed about the research only but now lets move to the research paper.

This is a type of essay paper for me but with a specific template. like a research paper includes abstract or summary of the paper or research, observations, calculations, methodology or procedure, outcomes and results, keywords. It a type of planned paper which tells the researcher how to do the research.

AC-DC Power Supply 1 ( Block Diagram)

  THEORETICAL BLOCK DIAGRAM So the basic purpose of a power supply is to convert and AC signal to DC Signal. The block diagram of the power supply would be something like given below The small electronic circuits cannot handle high voltage current. So a transformer is used to reduce the AC input and will give the required AC voltage value at output Now to convert an AC signal to DC signal A rectifier is used. The output from the rectifier is not a pure DC output. In fact, it contains a lot of ripples and it is highly not smooth. To make the DC output smooth and remove the AC content of the rectifier a filter circuit is used. This filter is either LC (inductor-capacitor) filter, RC (resistive – capacitive) filter. The choice of the filter depends on the designer of the circuit and to the type of power supply. The output now becomes a full DC with constant signal but still it is unregulated voltage. Meaning that a designer is receiving a higher than required voltage. So,
