In this 7th episode of this podcast I will be explaining what are projects and how engineers design and manage them.

Moreover I am writing a book  "Engineering Design & Management" that will cover the project design techniques and its implementation through various stages. The book is bit lengthy and it will take a while to finish.

Alright  let's start with a common question among us. What are projects ? According to Cambridge Dictionary 

          a piece of planned work or an activity that is finished over                  a period of time and intended to achieve a particular purpose 

Now we  know  that a project is well defined and well managed task. But what are the projects in engineering and technology. In engineering the projects various from type to type according to their technical field. But overall they are same.

As a project engineer you need to take care of some important things and these includes. 
  1. Time duration of a project
  2. Cost and Expenses of the Project
  3. Need of the project in the society
  4. Implementation of the project
  5. Ways to achieve the particular project
In this episode we will discuss the project initliazational and the rest of it will be for the next episodes. The most important thing in project design is its outcome. Once the project scope is cleared then its time for its implementation. A good project team is essential in this case with the good leader as well.

The leader will take the team and the entire project and will provide his best towards the successful competition of project.

One of the key features of the project is its design. If suppose you are building a skyscraper or a maglev train in the city then you need some technical engineers and project managers and nice budget.

AC-DC Power Supply 1 ( Block Diagram)

  THEORETICAL BLOCK DIAGRAM So the basic purpose of a power supply is to convert and AC signal to DC Signal. The block diagram of the power supply would be something like given below The small electronic circuits cannot handle high voltage current. So a transformer is used to reduce the AC input and will give the required AC voltage value at output Now to convert an AC signal to DC signal A rectifier is used. The output from the rectifier is not a pure DC output. In fact, it contains a lot of ripples and it is highly not smooth. To make the DC output smooth and remove the AC content of the rectifier a filter circuit is used. This filter is either LC (inductor-capacitor) filter, RC (resistive – capacitive) filter. The choice of the filter depends on the designer of the circuit and to the type of power supply. The output now becomes a full DC with constant signal but still it is unregulated voltage.
